A love sick Scot was swept away by the romance of the World Cup - and bombarded an old flame with messages.

Scott McKelvie had split from the woman and was banned from contacting her due to another court case.

But he was so swept up in World Cup fever, as Scotland competed in our first in 28 years, he was overcome with the urge to message her.

And Paisley Sheriff Court heard he went on to bombard her with calls, texts and WhatsApp messages after sending her a link to a YouTube video telling her he missed her.

He then sent her sexual messages, telling her what he wanted to do to her.

His lawyer claimed he still wants to win her back and the fact that she had replied to some of his messages gave him hope.

The details emerged yesterday, Tuesday, October 6, 2026, when McKelvie, of Auchinleck, East Ayrshire, appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court.

He admitted breaching bail conditions by contacting the woman, who lives within the jurisdiction of Paisley Sheriff Court, in June this year.

His lawyer explained: "He appreciates he shouldn't have contacted her, but he wished to reconcile with her.

"He had a glimmer of hope that they may be able to reconcile - there was a bit of text tennis between them.

"It was the World Cup, he was enjoying Scotland playing football and engaged in the text messaging."

Procurator Fiscal Depute Daud Sarwar said: "The accused sent a message on WhatsApp, it was a YouTube video containing the message, 'thinking of you, baby'.

"He began to repeatedly call her in the following weeks.

"He called her 50 times and text on WhatsApp 40 times and messaged on SMS twice.

"The accused sent her a video of himself drinking, he sent her a selfie and sent her further videos and selfies of himself."

The prosecutor said that other messages said "I've missed your wee face" and "I just want to cuddle you".

He also sent the woman sexual messages, telling her what he wanted to do to her, and she asked him to stop.

She contacted police and said that the messages made her "feel sick".

After hearing that the case involving the woman that McKelvie is on bail for has still to conclude, Sheriff George Jamieson fined him for the offence.

He fined him £410, reduced from £510 as he admitted his guilt.

And he ordered him to pay a £20 victim surcharge, which goes to a government fund used to help victims of crime.
