A warrant was issued for the arrest of a cancer sufferer this morning, after her sat

nav made her run late for court.

Elizabeth Willis was due at Dumbarton Sheriff Court today, Monday, March 23, 2026, over alleged road traffic offences.

But the 53-year-old was not in court when her case was called, and a sheriff issued a warrant for her arrest.

Defence lawyer Angus Eadie said that she was receiving medical treatment for cancer and the case had been adjourned previously as a result.

Sheriff Lorna Anderson said: "The case was adjourned previously for her personal appearance and for her to provide medical vouching [of her condition].

"If medical vouching can be provided then I'm sure steps can be taken [to avoid her being arrested] but as it stands I think it has to be a warrant [to apprehend her]."

The warrant was granted shortly before 10.30am and Willis arrived at the West Dunbartonshire courthouse around the same time.

The case against her was called again and the warrant was recalled.

Mr Eadie explained: "She apologises for her absence. She advises me that her satnav was playing up."

Sheriff Anderson recalled the apprehension warrant and adjourned the case until later this month.

Willis is due to go on trial accused of failing to provide her name, address, date of birth, place of birth and nationality to officers, failing to comply with a roadside breath test, failing to provide a breath sample and driving without insurance.

Willis, of South Lanarkshire, denies the charges and is due to go on trial later this month.
