Bathroom renovation firm boss accused of £190,000 fraud
A bathroom renovations company boss is facing trial accused of carrying out a fraud which pocketed him more than £190,000.
John-Paul Reilly, of Renfrew, Renfrewshire, was director of JPR Bathrooms Limited, in the Glasgow suburb of Clarkston, East Renfrewshire.
He is being prosecuted for allegedly carrying out "a fraudulent scheme to obtain money by obtaining money deposits for bathroom construction and remodelling work".
He denies convincing 28 different people to "make deposit payments" for "bathroom construction and remodelling work" that he had "undertaken to carry out".
Prosecutors say that "the truth" as he "well knew" was that he was "not able to complete the said work" and that he did "obtain a quantity of money from them" by fraud.
He is accused of carrying out the fraud from September 30, 2021, to October 31, 2022, at the JPR Bathrooms Limited premises.
Old images on Google Maps show the showroom when it was operating, and a van parked outside bearing the company name and logo.
Reilly, of Nith Drive, Renfrew, appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court this week to face a single charge of fraud.
The 47-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charge, with his lawyer telling the court that he had not intended to defraud people.
Sheriff James Spy adjourned the case until later this year for a trial to take place, and assigned a pre-trial hearing.
Reilly is due back in the dock in connection with the case in November, with his trial scheduled for later the same month.
