A man accused of trying to kill two people during an alleged knife rampage in Edinburgh made his second court appearance in connection with the case today.
Mustafa Kokoneh was fully committed for trial during a private hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court this afternoon, Thursday, March 12, 2026.
Kokoneh, of Edinburgh, made no plea to the eight charges he faces during the hearing and was fully committed for trial.
Kokoneh, who is said to be 23, was remanded in custody during the behind closed doors hearing.
He faces two attempted murder charges and two charges of carrying out life-threatening assaults.
He is also charged with breach of the peace, possession of knives and possession of weapons and destroying or damaging property.
Kokoneh was detained by officers after a series of alleged incidents in the capital on Monday, March 2, 2026.
His first appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court was last Wednesday, March 4, 2026, and he was remanded in custody during that hearing.
The alleged incidents took place in Edinburgh's Calders area on the Monday morning of last week.
He is accused of attempting to murder a woman in a supermarket - as she hid from him while he ransacked the store.
Prosecutors claim that the attack saw him strike her on the head with a glass bottle and that he rained knife blows on a man in a bid to kill him.
It's alleged he tried to carry out a knife attack on another man and threw cans at a third male, endangering their lives.
Armed police were scrambled to the scene and a stand-off took place for several hours before Kokoneh was detained.
Schools in the area were locked down as a precaution and two people were rushed to hospital to be treated for their injuries.
