Heartbreaking tributes have been paid to a new dad killed in a suspected shotgun murder as police launched a probe into his death.

Jordan Gray has been named as the man who died following an incident at a flat in Motherwell yesterday, Monday,December 15, 2025.

The 27-year-old was found dead in his flat in the North Lanarkshire town's Muirhouse area.

The alarm was raised yesterday afternoon after he was found stricken in the property in Shields Court.

Police swarmed the property and locked the area down as the probe into his death got underway.

And tributes have been paid to the young father online, as officers try to catch his killer.

Claire Kerr, the mother of his son, wrote: "Cannie believe a need to write this but R.I.P. Jordan Gray.

"We had our ups and downs but we have a beautiful baby boy together that is your absolute image.

"I promise I will always tell your son all about you and how much you loved him."

And Laura Langford posted: "Absolutely heartbreaking news. Rest easy Jordan Gray.

"What a character you were, boy, one of a kind. Always remembered.

"Thinking of your family and new born son at this sad time. Rest easy."

The area was locked as police investigated, with forensic officers spotted scouring the scene.

As well as two entrances to the block of flats involved being cordoned off, officers stood guard at the cordon.

A footpath and vehicles were within the cordon, and forensic officers were seen focusing on a stairway next to the building.

Less than a week ago, Jordan shared his love for his newborn son online.

He posted a picture of the tot and wrote: "My beautiful boy. Daddy loves you so much and I'll be down tomorrow to see you son. Love you to infinity and beyond."

A police source said: "He was blasted in the chest with a shotgun and died in agony on the couch.

"He was found by relatives and they have been getting supported by the force.

"It's a shocking thing to happen and officers are trying to track down the gunman and gun as soon as possible."

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Superintendent Grant Hendry of Police Scotland's Major Investigation Team, said: "From our enquiries so far, we believe the man died late on Sunday night, December 14, or in the early hours of Monday, 15.

"He was discovered in the flat on Monday afternoon, and police were called.

"We are of the opinion this is a targeted attack with no wider threat to the public."

Officers have been carrying out enquiries and checking CCTV. They are seeking information about a person seen in the area around 10.35pm on Sunday night.

Detective Superintendent Hendry added: "Footage shows a person wearing a dark jacket with the hood up and dark trousers in the area of Shields Court.

"We would ask people to contact us if they saw anything suspicious or the person described, between 10.15pm and 10.45pm on Sunday, 14 December.

"If you have any CCTV, private footage or dash-cam footage that may have captured something of significance, please contact us. Any information, no matter how small it may seem, could be vital."

Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 2147 of Monday, 15 December.

Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

An online portal has been set up to encourage members of the public to submit information directly to officers.

The Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP) is a website that gives the public access to a form to pass information, images and footage directly to the Major Investigation Team and can be accessed here:  https://orlo.uk/RA1Xr

Local area commander, Chief Inspector Steven Conn, said: "I understand there will be concern in the local community following this incident. There will be an increased police presence in the area and anyone with concerns can speak to officers.

"We would ask the public to be mindful of not speculating on the circumstances as this can affect the investigation and possible future legal proceedings."
