Police probe launched after two men taken to hospital following disturbance

A police probe has been launched after two men were rushed to hospital following an incident this afternoon.
The alarm was raised in Greenock around 12.40pm today, Sunday, February 1, 2026, in the town's Kilmacolm Road.
The disturbance in question took place near to the junction with Belville Street and saw two men taken to different hospitals.
A 31-year-old man was taken to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where he is said to be in a stable condition.
A 38-year-old man, who had suffered a serious head injury, was rushed to Inverclyde Royal Hospital.
He was arrested in connection with the disturbance by Police Scotland officers and released as officers continue to investigate.
Detective Constable Kenny McLachlan said: “This area would have been very busy at the time of the incident so I am asking any members of the public who may have witnessed what happened to get in touch.
“Similarly, anyone in the local area with private CCTV or doorbell footage or drivers with dash-cam footage should also contact us, as you may have captured what happened.”

A post about the incident on the Police Scotland Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Facebook page said: "Detectives are appealing for information after a serious assault in Greenock.
"Around 12.40pm on Sunday, 1 February, we received a report of a disturbance on Kilmacolm Road near the junction with Belville Street.
"Emergency services attended and a 31-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
"Another man, aged 38, was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital to be treated for a serious head injury.
"The 38-year-old man was arrested in connection and released pending further enquiries. The roads were closed to allow for investigations and have since reopened."
