A repeat offender was spared jail today after being convicted of his committing his TWELFTH sex crime.

Serial sex beast John Drummond has a criminal record for sexual offences which stretches back to the 1970s.

In May last year the 68-year-old committed his latest offence, performing a sex act on himself in public.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard he exposed himself to two women at an address in the Renfrewshire town.

He previously admitted a charge of masturbating in front of the women without their consent in relation to the incident.

The charge he pleaded guilty to stated that he did "intentionally engage in sexual activity" at an address in the town's Linside Avenue.

Drummond did not know the women he exposed himself to, who can't be named for legal reasons.

Sentencing had been deferred for background reports to be prepared and Drummond returned to the dock today, Friday, March 13, 2026, to be sentenced.

His lawyer told Sheriff Thomas Millar that, despite his lengthy list of previous sexual offences, Drummond had stayed out of trouble.

And she said he had been assessed as needing to work with professionals to prevent further offending - and that it would benefit him.

She explained: "There has been a period of desistance. He is in employment.

"Intervention is required and would be of assistance to Mr Drummond.

"He has desisted from offending since this matter came to light."

As he spared Drummond jail, Sheriff Millar warned him that he could still be jailed in future.

He said: "Should you be tempted to do this again or reoffend, you're probably going to end up in custody should you do this again."

He placed Drummond, of Paisley, on a three-year-long Community Payback Order.

It will see him supervised by social workers for that period of time and having to attend the Moving Forward: Making Changes programme, which helps adult male sex offenders change their ways.

He was also made the subject of a five-year-long Sexual Harm Prevention Order which is designed to stop him committing sex crimes.

And he was also placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for five years as part of his sentence.

The majority of Drummond's 11 previous convictions for sex offences were for public indecency, with his first conviction coming in the 1970s.
