Shirley Manson's Angelfish played only their second Scottish show ever last night - in aid of Palestinian children.

The band released a critically-acclaimed self-titled debut album in 1994 and toured extensively abroad, before she found worldwide fame as the singer in Garbage.

Although they supported the likes of The Ramones, Angelfish only ever played one show in Scotland - a 2015 charity gig in Glasgow.

But last night the 59-year-old Edinburgh-born singer - dubbed a "Godmother of Rock" by the New York Times - took to the stage at the capital's Liquid Rooms along with the rest of the band.

The group is made up of members of her former band Goodbye Mr Mackenzie and offshoot act The Filthy Tongues.

And Manson and co delighted fans with a cover of The Stone Roses hit I Wanna Be Adored among their own songs.

The show at the 700-capacity venue was planned as a one-off, but a second night was added when the first night sold out almost instantly.

And the band are set to play a second show at the venue in aid of the same cause tonight, which is also a sell-out.

Manson has been vocal of her support for Palestine over the years.

The pinned post on the Garbage Threads account says "Free Palestine" and is accompanied by a broken heart emoji.

And in December she made reference to Palestine while commenting on a rant she had made at a member of the audience with a beach ball at a previous Garbage gig.

Several fans had taken beach balls to the band's next show after she said she wanted to punch the guy in the face at the previous show.

She told the crowd in Australia: "The only thing that kind of shocks me a little is there’s been more fuss made about me offending beach balls than there has about 20,000 Palestinian kids who are now f****** under the dirt.

“So whilst the Brits are busy cooking up some kind of crazy, like, antichrist rhetoric, I would just like to remind you all what’s actually important in this life.

“And maybe a beach ball brings you joy and for that I apologise. If I upset you about your blessed beach balls, I humbly apologise.

“However, I would really like it if the governments of the day apologised for what the f*** is happening in Palestine.”

She began playing keyboards and providing backing vocals for Goodbye Mr Mackenzie, before they embarked on the Angelfish project.

That saw Manson taking over lead vocals and the other members of Goodbye Mr Mackenzie serving as her backing band, with Martin Metcalfe on guitar, Derek Kelly on drums and Fin Wilson on bass.

They released their only album in 1994, produced by Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth from Talking Heads, and they then toured America and Europe.

But Manson joined Garbage later the same year, and the band went on to achieve commercial and critical success.

The band has sold over 17million records worldwide and won a number of awards.
