Baby kill bid thug jailed for 11 years over attempted murder of three-month-old girl

A thug who tried to kill a three-month-old baby girl has been jailed for 11 years for attempting to murder her.
Joshua Coates left the tot with serious head injuries after attacking the youngster in Arbroath, Angus.
Officers were called to Dundee's Ninewell's Hospital on Friday, August 4, 2023, after the girl had been taken there.
Today, Wednesday, May 13, 2026, he was caged over the attack when he appeared at the High Court in Glasgow.
The 25-year-old had been convicted of the attempted murder on Thursday, March 12, at the High Court in Dundee.
Detective Constable Jamie Thomson said: “Today’s sentence reflects the seriousness of the violence inflicted on a completely defenceless child. The injuries sustained by the baby have been life changing and could easily have had fatal consequences.
“Our thoughts remain with child and her family as they continue their recovery from this traumatic ordeal.
“Cases involving harm to children are among the most difficult we deal with. However, Police Scotland is committed to thoroughly investigating such incidents and ensuring those responsible are held accountable.
