Domestic abuse thug stabbed partner's phone during harassment campaign
A domestic abuse thug stabbed a knife into his partner's mobile phone during a four-month campaign of harassment.
Scott McKinney abused the woman at his former home in Renfrew and at a property in Bishopton.
McKinney, of Renfrew, terrorised her between March and July 2024.
The 38-year-old grabbed her mobile phone from her and stabbed it with a knife.
He also shouted and swore at her and called her derogatory names.
The abuse took place when McKinney was living in a different flat in the Renfrewshire town to the one where he currently lives, and saw him also pinning her to the ground and bursting her lip.
Another violent outburst saw him striking a bathroom door, and the abusive course of conduct saw him demanding to know where she was.
He also monitored her mobile phone, repeatedly looking at her messages, calls and pictures.
Paisley Sheriff Court heard that he sent a number of abusive and threatening voicemails to the woman.
And he also contacted her and members of her family on social media when she wanted to be left alone.
McKinney admitted his guilt earlier this year, pleading guilty to breaking Section 1 of the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act 2018.
He admitted he engaged in a course of conduct which was abusive of his partner during the specified dates.
Sentencing had been adjourned for background reports to be prepared, so the sheriff presiding over the case, Bruce Erroch KC, could be informed of the best way of dealing with McKinney.
Last month, it was adjourned until yesterday, Friday, September 4, 2026, for McKinney to be sentenced.
And at yesterday's hearing, it was further adjourned for Sheriff Erroch to preside over.
McKinney is now set to learn his fate next month.
