Ex-SNP Councillor banned from approaching or contacting woman over drug rape lies

A former SNP representative has been banned from approaching or contacting a woman after making sex lies claims against her.

Michael Cullen served as a councillor in Glasgow, but resigned after it emerged he had been reported to police over the fake rape report.

He had been in a consensual relationship with her but lied to police that she had drugged and raped him at a property in Glasgow.

Today, Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Glasgow Sheriff Court he was made the subject of a two-year-long Non-Harassment Order.

The order bans him from approaching or contacting her, or attempting to approach her, in any way.

He was deemed unfit to stand trial over the bogus claims due to a mental condition and was excused from attending court due to the medical diagnosis.

An examination of facts took place at Glasgow Sheriff Court earlier this year and a sheriff ruled that he had broken the law by lying about being drugged and raped.

Prosecutors, the Sheriff and his own legal team believed he was essentially bedbound and unable to leave his home due to a depressive disorder.

But it later emerged Cullen is running a successful business doing camper van conversions - boasting he was so busy he could not take on new work until July.

Today, defence solicitor James Arrol told the court that a psychiatrist who examined him said he was receiving treatment whilst in the community and "is engaging of his own volition".

It emerged in February that Cullen - who tells customers to call him "Mikey" - runs Demon Campers in Clydebank.

Government documents show his mum, Audrey Cullen, who gave evidence in the examination of facts, is the director of a firm called Demon Services.

She was also the sole director and secretary for Demon Campers Ltd, a company which was dissolved in December.

But she was nowhere to be seen at the firm's premises in the industrial estate in Clydebank's Beardmore Way in February.

Cullen was photographed talking to customers at the small unit, before doing work on a camper van which was parked in front of the building.

He was seen lifting items and lying underneath a camper van, before boasting about the success of his business while discussing a possible camper van conversion.

He said his firm was so busy that he would not be able to take on any more conversions until July.

And he said that conversion packages, which start at around £15,000, are "bespoke" and allow customers to choose whatever they want.

When confronted over the fact that he should have been in the dock at Glasgow Sheriff Court over the sex lies case, he denied his true identity and ran away when questioned.

The 44-year-old was elected as a councillor for Glasgow's Garscadden and Scotstounhill ward in 2017, but resigned in 2020 when the allegations against him came to light.

He had made the bogus rape accusation to police at his home in Glasgow's Knightswood area, where he is understood to live with his mother, in March 2017.

He knew the accusation was false and made the complaint to three detective constables who "devoted their time and services" to investigate the matter.

He later wiped all his political social media accounts.
