A five-year-old girl was rushed to hospital earlier today after being hit by a car outside a Scottish cemetery.
The youngster was struck by the vehicle in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, this morning, Saturday, March 7, 2026.
She was struck at the gates to the cemetery, in the town's Grassyards Road, and a blue car had stopped at the scene.
But the vehicle left before officers arrived, and a probe was launched to try and track down the driver involved in the incident.
Sergeant Gordon Stewart said inquiries were ongoing to establish the full circumstances and urged any witnesses to come forward.
He added: "I would also ask anyone who was in the area and who may have dash cam or private CCTV that could assist to get in touch."
The force later revealed enquiries into the incident are continuing and that the car that left the scene prior to police arrival had been traced and the driver spoken to.
Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland by calling 101, quoting reference 1254 of 7 March, 2026.
