Firefighters are tackling a huge blaze in Glasgow city centre.

They were called to the scene after flames were seen coming from a building near to the House of Gods hotel.

Thick dark smoke was seen billowing into the sky above the city as firefighters tried to get the flames under control.

The alarm was raised at the properties in question, which are on Wilson Street and Glassford Street, at around 6.18pm this evening, Saturday, December 27, 2025.

The blaze was so big that 11 appliances were called to attend the incident. It is not yet known if anyone has been injured in the fire.

One eye witnesses said: "The fire engine put a drone up. Then they used one of the fire engines with the telescopic steps to attack the fire from the other side.

"Because there's a stairwell inside that apparently acts like a fan and it's not safe for them to get up to it.

"It seems to have gone done, the smoke is more grey now. It was very black earlier on. It looked quite toxic.

"There's a lot of folk came down earlier on, they got out the side door. They switched lights of up the stairs.

"I think they're worried that stuff is going to melt. The fire brigade got here so quickly it was unbelievable."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We received a report by 999 call around 6.18pm. There are 11 appliances in attendance. The incident is ongoing.”
