Man arrested after Scots cops swarm street in court wait

A man arrested after more than a dozen police officers swarmed a Scots street will appear in court at a later date, the force has said.

A 52-year-old was arrested following a disturbance in Sharphill Road, Saltcoats, on Wednesday, which saw at least 16 Police Scotland officers scrambled to the scene.

The force said initially that the suspect was due to appear in court yesterday, Thursday, April 30, 2026.

But the force later said that the man's scheduled appearance in the dock at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court will take place at a later date.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 12.50pm on Wednesday, 29 April, 2026, officers received a report of a disturbance on Sharphill Road, Saltcoats.

"A 52-year-old man was arrested and charged, and a woman was charged, in connection. The man is due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court at a later date."

We told previously how police officers swarmed the street as part of a huge emergency response which saw the street blocked and the suspect led away in handcuffs.

A female police officer was seen to be "as white as a ghost" after exiting a property in Sharphill Road, Saltcoats, during an incident which saw a man and woman detained.

One witness said they saw an officer removing something from the common close of a block of flats in the street.

And they said they saw the female officer appearing to give a statement to a colleague after 16 officers were spotted at the scene in the Ayrshire seaside town.

One witness said: "Within seconds there was a swarm of officers - the most I've ever seen at an incident.

"There were about six or seven police vehicles parked at all angles across the road outside the flat.

"They blocked the street while dealing with the incident and the traffic was backed up right up the road.

"It looked to me like the female officer had been injured. She was porcelain white and looked hurt and drained.

"She was talking to another officer at the scene and it looked like he was taking a statement from her.

"The guy that lives in one of the flats was marched out with his hands behind his back and cuffed and then taken away."

Another witness said: "I couldn't believe how many officers were there. I saw them carrying something out of the close.

"A guy was arrested and taken away. There were officers and police cars everywhere. It was mad because it all happened in seconds. The officers were all there in a flash."
