A man is facing trial accused of leaving a woman disabled after punching her unconscious in a street attack.

Scott Campbell is alleged to have assaulted Joanne McDonald in Paisley, Renfrewshire, leaving her badly hurt.

Prosecutors claim Campbell attacked her on July 19 last year, in the town's Barr Place, by punching her on the head.

The single charge he faces states that the punches caused her to fall to the ground and left her unconscious.

The full extent of her injuries and resulting impairment have not been specified in the charge.

The 23-year-old, of the town's Foxbar area, appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court yesterday, Friday, October 2, 2026.

The court heard he has lodged a special defence of self-defence and a special defence of self-defence of another.

At yesterday's pre-trial hearing, Sheriff Mungo Bovey KC adjourned the case until December this year for a trial to take place
