Man in court charged with Easter Sunday slashing outside primary school

A man has appeared in court charged with an Easter Sunday knife attack outside a Scots primary school. 

Callum Bell is alleged to have attacked a 20-year-old man near to the junction of Stanley Road and Dalry Road, Ardrossan, on Sunday, April 5.

There are entrances to Stanley Primary School on both of the streets in the Ayrshire seaside town.

The 23-year-old faces a charge of assault to severe injury over the alleged slashing.

He also faces three charges of assault to injury, and made no plea to all four charges when he appeared in the dock at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court today, Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

The case against Bell, of Ardrossan, was continued for prosecutors to investigate further and he was released on bail. 

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 11pm on Sunday, 5 April, 2026, we were called to a serious assault on Stanley Road in Ardrossan. 

"A 20-year-old man attended hospital for treatment before being discharged. 

"A 23-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He’s due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Tuesday, 7 April, 2026."
