This is the moment firefighters tackle a fierce blaze which saw a trail of flames surrounding a block of flats.

The drama unfolded in Ayr in the early hours of this morning, Thursday, October 1, 2026.

Residents could be heard screaming as fierce flames engulfed a van, in the seaside town's Viewfield Road, at around 1.11am.

A video shot by a resident at the scene shows firefighters in attendance at the vehicle fire, with a trail of flames running from a path next to the flats to the van which was ablaze.

It is unclear how the fire started, but firefighters called to the scene extinguished the blaze.

One onlooker said: "There was a big commotion outside and lots of noise, which is unusual for that time of the morning around here.

"Then when I looked out the window I could see the flames and I rushed outside.

"There was a trail of fire going from the path next to the bins all the way to the van that was on fire.

"The fire trail was basically the length of the whole building.

"It was so surreal, it's definitely not what you expect to see at any time, never mind that time of the morning.

"There were residents screaming as they were so scared.

"Nobody could really work out what was going on at first.

"But the firefighters managed to put the fire out and thankfully nobody seemed to be hurt."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 1.11am on Thursday, October 1, 2026, to reports of a van on fire at Viewfield Road, Ayr.

“Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting one van.

“There were no reported casualties and crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”

Police Scotland has also been approached for comment on the incident.
