Murder cops say "extensive searches" ongoing to trace Grant McKinnon over Elizabeth Colligan murder

Police have insisted that "extensive searches are ongoing" to trace missing man Grant McKinnon - who was last spotted at the scene of a pensioner's death.

The 30-year-old vanished from Cardowan Road, in Glasgow's Carntyne area, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

He was last seen at 4am - the same time that 82-year-old Elizabeth Colligan was found injured in the street and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police revealed on Sunday that McKinnon was "dangerous" and urged the public not to approach him - and to call 999 if you see him - amid the murder probe.

But three days on from the tragic former lollipop lady's death, McKinnon remains at large, and officers gave an update on the operation to catch him this afternoon.

Superintendent Craig Brady said: “We have a dedicated team of officers working to find Grant McKinnon.

“Our enquiries suggest he may have been in an agitated state when last seen. Officers remain in the area and searches are being carried out in a number of areas, which include specialist resources from our Dog Unit. The public can approach officers if they have any concerns or call 101.

“We understand this police presence may be unsettling for the local community but please be assured we are doing everything we can to trace Grant.

“I am also appealing to the local community to assist us and asking anyone who knows where Grant is or where he might be to get in touch.

“The public should not approach him but contact us immediately on 999, quoting incident number 0523 of Saturday, 18 April, 2026."

Grant is described as white, 6ft, of slim build, with a shaved head. When last seen he was wearing a black jacket with a red hood, or red hood lining, and blue jeans.

Detective Inspector Gordon Walker said previously: “Our thoughts remain with Elizabeth’s family and friends during this very difficult time. We are continuing to offer them our support as the investigation progresses.

“Officers are following a positive line of enquiry and work is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what has happened. This includes door to door enquiries in the local area, as well as a detailed review of all available CCTV footage.

“We are especially keen to speak with anyone who saw or heard anything around 4am on Saturday, 18 April, 2026.”

Chief Inspector Jon Watters said: “We understand that this will be concerning for the local community, and we want to reassure the public that extensive enquiries are underway.

"There will continue to be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days, and anyone with information or concerns is encouraged to speak with officers.”
