An investigation has been launched after a man was found dead within a home in a seaside town.

The man, who has not yet been named, passed away at a property in Saltcoats, Ayrshire.

The alarm was raised yesterday, Monday, December 22, 2025, and the emergency services were called to attend the maisonette.

Paramedics and police arrived at the property in question, in the town's The Braes.

The home overlooks the promenade and the sea and has views of the Isle of Arran.

He was found dead inside and Police Scotland said a probe is now underway to establish exactly what happened to him.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3pm on Monday, December 22, 2025, we were made aware of the death of a man within a property on The Braes, Saltcoats.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.”

The Scottish Ambulance Service was also approached for comment.

Neighbours did not wish to speak about the incident, with other locals saying they were unaware who the man was.

But one local, who asked not to be named, said: "It's such a shame something like this has happened so close to Christmas.

"A time of year when families meet up to spend time together and have fun, but his loved ones are now left grieving.

"It's so sad and I feel for them. There's never a good time to lose a loved one but it's even worse at Christmas."
