The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that a fierce fire in Glasgow at the weekend started on the top floor of a building.

A spokesperson said the blaze took hold at the summit of the four-storey property in question and that a probe into the fire will start soon.

It's understood the fire started on the roof of the city's Revolver hotel, on Virginia Street, then spread to the House of Gods hotel which it backs onto.

It comes after police and firefighters were still stationed at the scene the day after the incident.

A handful of firemen and several police officers were photographed at the scene on Glassford Street, Wilson Street and Virginia Street yesterday, Sunday, December 28, 2025.

Two cranes were pictured at the scene, with one positioned onto the roof of the Revolver hotel, at the back of House of Gods.

Today, Monday, December 29, 2025, a Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 6.19pm on Saturday, December27 to reports of a fire within a commercial premises on Virginia Street, Glasgow.

"At its height, Operations Control mobilised six appliances to the scene and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting the fourth floor of a four-storey building.

“Residents of nearby buildings were evacuated as a precautionary measure and all persons were accounted for. There were no reported casualties.

“An investigation to establish the cause of fire will commence in the coming days”.
