Scots cops seize car after operation targeting shoplifting gang

A car has been seized by police following an operation targeting a Scottish shoplifting gang today.

Members of an Organised Retail Crime Group were spotted at a retail park in Dumfries by in-store security.

Police Scotland were alerted and Community Policing Officers began to investigate the report on Saturday, February 7, 2026.

This resulted in them tracking the crime gang down at another retail park in the town and running a search on the vehicle in question.

The search revealed that the driver did not have insurance, so officers seized the white hatchback.

A post about the incident on the Police Scotland Dumfries & Galloway Facebook page said: "Retail Crime is not a victimless crime.

"Dumfries Community Officers work closely with retailers to deter & detect those involved retail crime.

"Unfortunately Organised Retail Crime Groups often target our area to carry out bulk, high value thefts often stealing thousands of pounds worth of alcohol, health & beauty products & electronics at a time.

"Today one such group from Glasgow were spotted by a member of the Radio Link Scheme at a retail park in Dumfries.

"Our Community Policing Officers were informed. They then carried out a search & traced the group at another retail park in town.

"Fortunately no thefts had occurred but the driver of their car had no insurance so unfortunately for them it was seized.

"We will continue to work closely with retailers & partners such as Retailers Against Crime to help protect them & their staff."
