Three women hospitalised in New Years Day crash as Scots cops launch probe

Three women were rushed to hospital following a New Years Day crash involving two cars in Abereenshire.
The blue Volkswagen T-roc and white Suzuki Ignis collided on the A952, near Toll of Birness, at around 1.05pm today, Thursday, January 1, 2026.
Three women, aged 20, 51 and 81, were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary to receive treatment for serious injuries.
The road was closed while officers from Police Scotland launched an investigation into the crash.
A post on the Police Scotland North East Facebook page said: "Officers are appealing for witnesses following a crash on the A952 near Toll of Birness in Aberdeenshire.
"The crash happened around 1.05pm on Thursday, 1 January, 2026, and involved a blue Volkswagen T-roc and a white Suzuki Ignis.
"Three women, aged 81, 51 and 20, were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries. The road remains closed."
Sergeant Sarah Ritchie from the North East Road Policing Unit said: "Enquiries are ongoing and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash to contact us.
“We’d also ask anyone who may have dashcam footage of the road at the time to come forward.”
