Twisted thug free to murder young dad as he was bailed over knifepoint rape of woman jailed over sex attack

A violent thug left free to murder a young dad after being released on bail over the knifepoint rape of a woman was jailed for the sex attack today.

Cameron Woods boasted that stabbing people made him 'horny' - then raped his victim just yards from a police car after luring her into a close.

Woods, who has numerous previous convictions for assault and was jailed previously for carrying a knife, was arrested and charged over the incident.

He appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court but was released on bail over the offence and just three months later stabbed young dad Robert Fisher to death.

He is now serving a life sentence for the killing and was sentenced over the rape at the High Court in Glasgow today.

Temporary Judge Fraser sentenced him to four years in prison, and placed him on the Sex Offenders' Register indefinitely.

She also made him the subject of a Non-Harassment Order, banning him from having any contact with his victim.

The sentence will be served alongside his murder sentence, meaning he will spend no further time behind bars.

The 26-year-old lured the woman into a laundry room at a block of flats in Paisley, Renfrewshire, in the early hours of April 16, 2023.

He attacked her on the floor while holding a blade to her face.

Woods claimed that the pair had consensual sex, but was found guilty after his victim, a lesbian, insisted she was only attracted to women and had been raped.

She told his rape trial that earlier that evening they and others partied at a flat in Paisley and that he had been exposing his penis and talking about his fascination with knives.

The 24-year-old told the High Court in Paisley last month: "He was talking about hurting people - saying it made him horny - stabbing people.

"He said that stabbing someone is like putting a knife into a tyre.

"He kept pulling out his penis. He was standing in the middle of the room doing it.

"He was saying he was going to put a knife through us."

On April 25, 2023, he was bailed over the sex attack, and on July 23 he carried out the "frenzied" knife murder of Fisher.

The 26-year-old was found fatally wounded in a flat in the Renfrewshire town after an argument broke out in the tower block and he died in hospital days later.

Jurors in the rape trial were clearly shocked to learn Woods was a convicted murderer, which they found out when they found him guilty by majority of the rape.

They had been unaware of his violent past due to legal rules protecting accused persons facing trial.

Advocate Depute David McDonald had told the jury: "Cameron Woods is simply a liar. 

'He saw an opportunity to have sex with her - he didn't care whether she was consenting or not, and he raped her at knifepoint."

When he was convicted, Temporary Judge Fraser said he had "displayed a shocking disregard for her wellbeing" and added it could have "a lasting impact on her life."

Woods shook his head as the verdict was returned.
