Violent, controlling Scots sex beast plundered woman's life savings and left her thousands in debt

A woman who was subjected to years of abuse at the hands of a violent, controlling rapist has been left thousands of pounds in debt because of him - after he plundered her life savings.

Alan Turner ploughed through the NHS worker's £18,000 nest egg which was earmarked for her daughter's wedding.

And he left her in so much debt after squandering her money that it will take her years to pay it off - and she had to rely on friends to buy Christmas presents to give to her family.

He was jailed over a four-year campaign of abuse last month and banned from contacting his victim for life.

But she has revealed that the abuse went further than what was heard in court - and that is still suffering as a result of his actions.

She said she was forced to spend her life savings to clear the debts he had amassed in her name.

And she said it was a double blow as the money was supposed to help pay towards her daughter's wedding.

Turner, 52, was jailed for seven years at the High Court in Kilmarnock for the abuse, which saw him isolating her from friends and family.

The abuse took place in Elgin and throughout Scotland between 2019 and 2023.

He also raped her, carried out a life-threatening assault on her, and became so controlling he took full charge of her finances and access to money.

And his brave victim, who can't be named for legal reasons, has now revealed the full financial impact the abuse has had on her.

She explained: "I had £18,000 in savings and a credit card which I’d never used when I first met him.

"I found out he was £60,000 in debt to various banks and companies and £26,000 in debt to his sister. 

"He sold his house, gave £10,000 to his ex wife and paid his sister back. 

"The few thousand he had left was to go towards his £60,000 debt but he never paid it off.

"His gambling started and the money ran out very quickly. 

"That’s when he started demanding money to purchase things. 

"He got a job but was gambling his full week's wage in one night.

"I was constantly having to use my savings. 

"His son wanted more and more so Alan would force me to buy it or give his son my bank card."

And the woman, who worked on a psychiatric ward, said it got worse from there.

She explained: "Alan then signed a trust deed and was left with very little spare money. 

"After he signed the trust deed, he took my bank card. The gambling carried on. 

"Everything started getting paid on my credit card. 

"Christmas and birthdays for his family was a lavish affair costing me hundreds of pounds. 

"His family's gifts were put on a Next credit account. My family barely got anything.  

"He went through thousands using my PayPal account which was linked to my wages account. 

"It was over £4000 between November 2022 and March 2023. He never paid anything back. 

"I got into arrears with council tax. My credit rating is poor, my credit card got reduced to £500 limit. 

"I have nearly £400 to pay off on my credit card and I have no savings left. 

"I had to cancel my landline, Sky and Netflix to save money. 

"I have no spare money at the end of the month. 

"I’m embarrassed about my poor credit rating and debt. 

"I couldn’t even afford Christmas presents. 

"I got helped out by a friend who runs raffles to donate to charities. 

"She kindly gave me some donated toys for my youngest grandchildren.

"The mental anguish is awful. My savings were for helping my own children out if they were stuck. 

"Like buying a wedding dress, a pram, helping if they needed a car or in emergencies if they needed a washing machine and so on.

"He not only took from me, he took my ability to help my kids out."

Last month, Lord Cubie made him the subject of an eight-year-long extended sentence, made up of a seven-year jail term and a 12-month period of supervision once released from custody.

He was also placed on the sex offenders register for life and made the subject of a lifelong Non-Harassment Order, banning him from contacting his victim for the rest of his life.
